As of today’s mail, I received the official response from my Right-to-Know request for the Stacey Burns murder case from the Department of Safety, State of New Hampshire.
As expected, the response produces nothing and is useless for my purposes and the purposes of the project I began in 2010.
Here are the two bases for which all records are being withheld under state law:
- Their disclosure could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings (for example, undermining the ability to investigate)
- To protect against an unwarranted invasion of privacy
The response ends with this statement: “This request is now considered closed.”
I am posting this since some folks have wondered what might have happened to this request. Now you know.
Am I alone in thinking this savage crime of almost fifteen years ago will never be solved? What a terrible outcome for an investigation!
Someone told me that they overheard some town cops talking at the bar at Nolan’s a few months after it happened, and it sounded like a coverup. I don’t understand how this whole investigation has been swept under the rug. As someone who’s lived in the area for 20+ years and knew the family, it’s unbelievable that they still have no answers. It’s a SMALL town and everyone knows everyone’s business. Someone has to be covering something up!
