“During interviews conducted for this book (Murder in a Small Town: The Tragic Death of Stacey Burns) friends of Stacey Burns identified three women and one additional man besides Jim Vittum and Ed Burns who, they believe, could have killed Stacey Burns.”
This quote appears on page 125 of the draft of Murder in a Small Town . . . This issue has been addressed in this blog previously, but is important enough to mention yet again. The six possible suspects mentioned in the above quotation do not include three other scenarios which a variety of credible people have related to me. One is the “murder for hire” scheme. A second is Stacey’s knowledge of the “drug culture” in Wolfeboro, and the possibility that she was silenced because of that knowledge. The third is an accusation of a collusion among lawyers and others involved in a wide ranging conspiracy of unethical and illegal behavior.
If one adds all of these possibilities together, you get a plethora of suspects. So, seven years and seven months after Stacey’s murder, are we no closer to determining what happened? It seems to me (granted, the police see me as an untrained, uninformed or misinformed ordinary citizen) that we have two choices.
- The simple scenario-Stacey’s murder was carried out by a single person with a burning rage in his/her heart and/or a singularly strong motive to want Stacey dead.
- The complicated scenario- Stacey’s murder was carried out by a group of people who felt that a living Stacey Burns somehow represented a dangerous threat to them.
Is this an over-simplification? It is going on eight years, folks. The longer it goes, the more I am inclined to lean toward the complicated scenario.
Duke
That would be #1 Duke. It has always been my belief.
As mentioned before, it is my belief that a new governor will also bring about a new AG. This case has way to many political overtones from the current elected officials I will continue to be Staceys advocate until an arrest is made. Even though two Homicde Detectives stated that they are better than plain ordinary citizens. I must simply say to that, “Get on with it”.
At this time I wish a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and please have a safe holiday season.
My problem with the “hit man” or the other scenario is that no reward has ever been made for information leading to an arrest. If, like Bobbie Miller’s case the A.G. thought other people were involved, we would see a reward offered. There is talk in N.H. of making our A.G.’s position ‘elected” instead of the current policy of Gov. appointed. This could take the political effect out of our justice dept. That would be awesome. It may be too late for Stacey but it would make the A.G. accountable in the future.
Cuold not have said it any better Jim. Merry Christmas and great Holidays to you and yours Jim.
I would have to pick #1. From the beginning.
For the sake of Stacey’s children I don’t think the waters should keep being mudded up. Let’s stop making more scenario’s to sell books or get more people’s personal opinions.. If and once a murder weapon is found and arrest will be made in this case. The murderer is known to many who are afraid to talk and that’s a shame becuase this case would have been solved years ago. Or if the psychopath killer would just take responsibility Staceys kids could have closure.
