Is the murder of Stacey Burns considered a cold case? This was yet another question asked at my presentation on the book project about the case. My answer was no, not officially. If I am mistaken and the case has been moved into that category, I (and many others) would like to know about it.

My understanding is that this murder remains in the “open-unsolved” realm, which means that it is still being actively investigated. As mentioned in a blog post well over a year ago, “actively investigated” is a phrase which I’d be interested in having defined by those doing the investigating.

Does it mean this case gets attention one day a week? one day a month? an hour per week? Does it mean the file is reexamined on a regular basis? Are people close to the case being interviewed again? Is there ANYTHING new to report? It’s been at least a couple of years since we first heard that an arrest was “imminent.”

One correspondent who did not want to be identified wrote in a personal e-mail several months ago that the investigation was very active but also very “hush-hush.” One can only hope that person is correct.

I’d love to hear from anyone who might have evidence that something is indeed happening with this case, even if it is a top- secret operation. I would be so happy to find out that the contention that nothing is being done is an erroneous one and that the psychopathic killer should be constantly looking his/her shoulder because the police are closing in.
