Here is another question regarding the Stacey Burns murder raised by an attendee at my “Murder in a Small Town” program in August. Remember, most of the forty or so people attending knew nothing about this murder case, although a few recalled a feature article about my work on the book project in the local newspaper over two years ago.
(Once again, paraphrasing since I did not record the exact question) Isn’t the community up in arms about the lack of an arrest in this murder? The questioner followed up by asking about the mindset of the people of the area since a killer still walks among them.
My answer? Yes, there are still people in the community who are incensed that the killer has not been arrested. As far as the mindset, there is an element of fear in the community. I’ve spoken with many people regarding this. However, this anger and fear have not had the desired effect on those in a position to do something about bringing in this psychopathic murderer. Quite naturally, human nature being what it is, the “up in arms” mode of the community in September of 2015 is not anywhere close to the same intensity as that mode was in May of 2009.
The passage of time supposedly heals wounds but I contend that all time does is allow a scab to form over the wound. Everyone knows what happens when a scab is picked off a healing wound, but maybe scraping off the scab from the loss of Stacey Burns would once again move the community back into the “up in arms” mode, where it should be.
I thought the question was a good one. What do you think?
Duke
The killer doesn’t walk amongst us. He moved. Wolfeboro should still be up in arms. Stacey was one of our own. And there are some who still feel Staceys murder and her loss is still as fresh today as it was in 2009.
When I first read about ‘fast and furious’ the AZ. based gov. operation to sell AK-47’S to Felons along the boarder I was “up in arms”. When I watched the ISIS videos (beheadings, burning alive, drowning alive etc.etc) I was “up in arms” and when I learned planned parenthood, w/ tax payer money is selling baby parts I was “up in arms”. The people of Wolfeboro are “up in arms” about alot of things. The country is so “up in arms” that they are willing to elect Donald Trump president. Maybe someday we the people will hold someone accountable for all this “arm upping” that we so willfully display. Jeff Strelzin is paid over 6 figures to be accountable, sinse Stacey’s murder he has been paid a million dollars and still has never been accountable. We get what we deserve, dubs like Strelzin.
Duke, you’ve mentioned many times that you speak to area people and they are fearful to speak up. I don’t understand that. Listen, we all know who I think did this and to his face I called him a piece of **** for the way he was treating his kids after Staceys murder. I’m certainly not big and bad but I know how strongly I feel about my convictions and would talk like mad if I felt I could help. I’m sick of hearing about this fear almost 7 years later. Suck it up people and do what needs to be done for Stacey. Your fear is just a poor excuse.
