It is time to once again “clear the air” since this comment has been made regarding my work on a book about the Stacey Burns murder case.
I’ll issue this challenge to anyone who says I am in this project for the money. Prove it!
1. I have stated that any profits from this book, should it ever be published and actually sell any copies, would go to the foundation for the Burns children, I am assuming such a foundation still exists.
2. Thus far, I have traveled to New Hampshire four separate times from Arizona for interviews and research specifically for this project, a costly proposition at best. That has been my choice and I do not regret it.
3. I did not know Stacey Burns personally but I know many people who have been profoundly affected by her senseless and brutal murder. At the time I undertook this project, I thought it was the right thing to do for these people and for the memory of a truly special human being.
4. I still believe my work is worthwhile. Stacey’s murder should NEVER be set aside by the police, by her family, by her friends, by her community, nor by anyone who feels that he might make a difference in the case.
Finally, think about your most precious memory of Stacey Burns. If it is enough for you to hold that memory and let any sort of justice for her murder disappear into the past, then I suppose any efforts on my part are futile.
Duke
Absolutely absurd, Duke, for all the reasons you mentioned. I know you well enough that I believe you are pure of heart in this and all regards, that you care about the community in question and their loss of someone who was dear to many there. Dare I say that the person who said that (and I did not see the comment) has something to hide, some ax to grind, or why would they accuse you of something to distract from your hard work trying to solve this murder. Don’t get defensive about this. Let it go. It’s a ridiculous accusation that you do not deserve.
please never give up! The least we can hope for is that justice will be served! Stacey deserves nothing less! Thank you for your continued time and compassion! She is gone, but never forgotten!!
Critics and nasty people are analogous to horseflies. Walk right over them, or through them, or around them and keep
on truckin’. I believe you to be an honorable man. Good Luck
I absolutely agree with Denise. Anyone who knows anything about you knows you are not in this story for the money. You can hold your head high. No defense needed.
To connect a make a buck concept with Duke Southard is so off the mark. If it were not in print it would be laughable. Since, unfortunately , it is, a rebuttal must be made. Duke is generous with his time and energy with no thought of what he might get financially. I suspect the buck comment came from someone who does operate from a ‘what’s in it for me’ way of living. Not Mr. Southard
The thing about “bad press” and negativity is; “who cares?” The thing about what we do and why we do it is; “we care” I’m really glad your in this and I know it’s for all the right reasons, never a doubt.
Its SUCH an absurd accusation that you are doing this for any reason but the right ones!
Let it go with laughter if you can find it in your heart to understand how fearful they are of you making a difference.
Staceys murder IS being investigated. In TIME they will turn on each other. Time will be the healer.
I find this ‘Robert Durst’ case interesting. The authorities were FORCED to do something only because the media showed evidence to the public that they (the authorities) just couldn’t pretend didn’t exist. I wonder if all 20 something people that Stacey told “if I’m killed you know it was Ed”ever got together w/ fox’s judge Jeanean and went public, if we could force Strelly to get off his overpaid ass?
